Stevenage's
delightful Town Square in spring sunshine. On the listed Clock Tower is a
Carter's tiled map - a contour map - of the area, whilst on the Primark
store, on the far side of the Square, is a full-height tile mural depicting
an idealised view of local activities (this can just be seen on the far
right of the left-hand photo). |

This pair are just
two of the 23 ceramic panels by Rupert Spira which decorate the rear of 100
New Bridge Street in the City of London. They were produced in 1992 at the
Froyle Pottery. They can be found by following the alleyway round to the
north of the building, which stands about 200 yards south of the tile mural
on the former BT offices in Farringdon Street (see below). |

There's no public
access to this wonderful 1953 Carter's mural in the former cafeteria of
Lewis's store in Liverpool, as the area is now used for storage. For those
lucky enough to get a glimpse of it, it's the nearest thing to the Festival
of Britain you're likely to experience! |

On the left is the
1960 enamelled tile mural by the St Ives artist Peter Lanyon, installed in
the Civil Engineering Building of the University of Liverpool. Its title is
'The Conflict of Man with the Tides and the Sands', a visualisation of the
research done in the department. On the right is a small part of the nearby
Mathematics Building mural (1961) by John McCarthy. |

Way down south in the City of
London, this very large-scale nine-section stoneware tile mural may be found
on the former BT offices in Farringdon Street; it was designed by D. Annan
in 1960. |
