May 2002: Tiles but not tiles: This is the Blue Carpet, installed in 2001-2 outside the Laing Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was created by the artist Thomas Heatherwick usingwpe33197.gif (126281 bytes) 22,500 purpose-made tiles made from white resin and recycled glass shards. It looks stunning at night, when the neon lighting beneath the seats - chunks of turned-up carpet - is seen to best effect. Tiles in close-up (right).

Spring 2002: Tiles from the Isle of Man and an opportunity to download the list of Powell's opus sectile locations. And don't forget the photographs from Seville.

Autumn 2001: Try out the database page for DEVON to see some delightful autumnal tiles, including Spindals shop in Rolle Street, Exmouth, with its Sun Fire Office symbol.

June 2001: Pugin's St Giles RC Church, Cheadle, has a whole DATABASE PAGE to itself, so here's just one photograph to whet the appetite..... just click the link to see more.

April 2001: How medieval tile pavements really looked - at Willington Church, Bedfordshire, where the Victorian copy is the next best thing to a real medieval pavement in terms of colour and visual impact. And see the new Wolverhampton terracotta website on our LINKS page.

Spring 2001: A terracotta dragon from Stanley Brotherswpe66072.gif (67589 bytes) wpe19394.gif (70955 bytes) of Nuneaton, and in the 'Gone but not Forgotten' department, the Elephant & Castle, Wolverhampton, demolished March 2001.

January 2001: New database page on St Mary's Church, Shrewsbury, with its intriguing series of tile pavements, and the updated TILE FILE with details of the TACS Artists, Designers and Manufacturers Database. The Tile File is still work in progress, but this unique document is now available on CDrom or paper for you to buy, consult and add to.

December 2000: See the refurbished First Class Refreshment Room at Newcastle Central Station with its spiffing 1892 Burmantofts scheme on the Northumberland page. And those dogs are still out on the tiles in County Durham, with canine panels at Felling and Jarrow.

Autumn 2000: Check out our Beginner's Guide to Tiles, the Quiz Page or virtual town tours of Newcastle upon Tyne and Poole in Dorset. There's also a page on Britain's Ceramic Pubs, linking up with an article in the current TACS Journal. Finally, there's a page entirely devoted to the intriguing ceramics at the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Newark, including yet another splendid Powell's panel, a chancel pavement and many memorial tiles.

August 2000: See the tile pavements at the Royal Museum, Edinburgh, on the Royal Museum database page. A summary of the Cumming Report on 'Minton Tiles in the Churches of Staffordshire' is on the Cumming Report page.

July 2000: School tile panels: the Dome - and some weird and wonderful animals - appear on two modern ceramic panels outside Bethnal Green schools, scroll down the Tower Hamlets page. 

June 2000: The atmospheric St Magnus Cathedral at Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands; the unique 'pot church' of St Stephen's at Bolton and a fine reredos from St Cuthbert's in Darwen on the database page for Lancashire

May 2000: Photos of the unique tiled passageway at the Midland Hotel, Bradford and a splendid butcher's shop in Hartlepool are on the database pages for Yorkshire (West) and County Durham respectively.
